Five Allen County high school seniors will receive the prestigious William Preston and Belvah McFadden Scholarship to attend college in the fall.
From Iola are Lexie Long, daughter of Patrick and Cyndi Long, and Jonathan Tidd, son of David Tidd and the late Julie Tidd; from Marmaton Valley, Emily Boyd, daughter of Mark and Patricia Boyd, and Payton Wilson, son of Amy Wilson and the late Charles Wilson; and from Humboldt, Kasey Beeman, daughter of Bengji and Marsha Beeman.
The students will receive a combined $10,000 — $5,000 annually for two years.
With the five scholarships this year, a total of 161 students have received funds totaling $1,152,500.
The William Preston and Belvah McFadden Scholarship fund was created in 1989 under the will of Jack E. McFadden. It was McFadden’s wish that the fund, named in memory of his parents.
