LE ROY — Ground was broken Monday to accommodate construction of a new career technology education (CTE) and science building for Southern Coffey County USD 245.
Throngs of students, school board members and others in the community gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony, near the existing high school cafeteria.
Construction for the science classroom and a new agriculture/metals shop should be complete by November, while a new fire system at the elementary school in Gridley has already been installed.
The project also includes a pair of modular pre-kindergarten classrooms, one each in Le Roy and Gridley. Those should be in place by August.
Voters last May approved the $2 million bond issue, which will be paid off over the next 10 years with an ad valorem property tax hike of about 8.5 mills.
