MORAN — Marmaton Valley High School will honor its senior class as part of a community graduation ceremony next Tuesday.
School board members moved Graduation Day, originally set for this weekend, three days because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Gov. Laura Kelly’s order prohibiting graduation ceremonies is scheduled to expire Monday.
“We’re hopeful the governor doesn’t amend our ability to do it,” Principal Kim Ensminger said.
The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Moran City Park, in which the graduates will line up in vehicles and drive to the school.
Although it’s not an official parade, residents are welcome to step outside and wave or honk to the seniors along the way.
Then, seniors and their families will line up in alphabetical order to walk through the senior hallway to receive their diplomas and take pictures. The graduates will be limited to two family members for their walk-through event at MVHS.
The event will be streamed on the district’s Facebook page and YouTube site.
ELSEWHERE, Humboldt USD 258 confirmed its tentative graduation site, 2 p.m. July 12, at the Humboldt sports complex.
Board members also approved Monday a series of resignations and made several hirings.
Resigning are: Tasha Dawson, third grade; Andrea Works, fourth grade; and Gretchen Murrow, paraprofessional.
New hires include: Corinna Adams, third grade; Kristal Mann, sixth grade; Hannah Robinson, sixth grade; Kristal Mann, high school Student Council sponsor; Corinna Adams, middle school girls head basketball coach; Corinna Adams, assistant middle school girls volleyball coach; Lizzie Krone, middle school girls cheerleading sponsor; and Drake Harrington and Kristen Kobold, summer food service.
