It’s time to recognize some of Allen County’s businesses, groups and people trying to make the community a better place.
Thrive Allen County will have its annual celebration at 7 p.m. on Friday. For the second year, it will be offered online because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event recognizes businesses, groups and individuals for their efforts to advance four categories: economic development, education, health and wellness, and recreation.
“We want to shine a light on the people in Allen County,” said Jonathon Goering, Thrive’s economic development director.
Special awards will be announced, and attendees can win prizes, too. Several restaurants will offer specials or deals in conjunction with the virtual event.
There is no charge to attend. Register at thriveallencounty.org/rsvp
Instructions to enter for prizes will be available on that platform.
THRIVE staff have learned some lessons from last year’s virtual awards program, and some of those things will carry into the future, Kate Schroeder, director of communications, said.
“We’re a lot more comfortable with it this year. We’ve found our footing and we’ve found some traditions that will stick with us,” she said.
For example, Thrive created short video introductions of the nominees. It’s a good opportunity to view those businesses or organizations at work, capturing the qualities that make them special.
“We’re figuring out how to take this moment to reflect and celebrate at a time we need it more than ever,” she said.
