Both Allen County Commission seats up for grabs this year will be contested in November.
Iolan Steven Henderson filed by petition Friday morning for the seat held by appointee John Brocker. The filing deadline for county commission was noon Friday.
Henderson, a Democrat, ensures a November referendum for Allen Countians living in District 3, which covers almost all of Iola and parts south of town.
He will face either Brock-er or Bruce Symes, both of who filed as Republicans and will face off against each other in an August primary vote.
Henderson, 22, is a recent transplant, having moved to Iola from Fayetteville, Ark., March 31, with his fiancee, Rachel McDonald. McDonald was hired as general manager of the Marmaton Market in Moran.
Prior to that, Henderson worked as assistant director of food service for Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.
Brocker was appointed to the commission in March, following the resignation of former commissioner Jim Talkington.
The November vote will be to fill the remaining two years of the term.
THE OTHER commission seat up for grabs this year is Jerry Daniels seat in District 1, which covers the southern half of Allen County and encompasses Humboldt and Moran.
Daniels, a Republican, fiied to keep his seat. He will be opposed by Democrat Mike Bruner in November.
Both are from Humboldt.
THE ONLY other contested race this year among local candidates will be in Marmaton Township. Curt Drake and Jim Mueller have both filed for township clerk.
