Christian Church

There will be a youth game night from 6 to 9 Friday at the parsonage for middle and high school students. Vacation Bible School begins Monday and runs through June 8.

Cowboy Church

Veterans were recognized Sunday at High Point Cowboy Church.

“God is hope” was the focus of Pastor Jon Petty’s message taken from Romans 4:17-20.

Northcott Church

UMC

Scripture shared at Sunday’s United Methodist Church was Psalm 29: 1-11, Isaiah 6: 1-8, Romans 8: 12-18 and John 3: 1-17. Pastor Dorothy Welch presented the sermon, “Pick Me! Pick Me!”

Crest superintendent

Kincaid native and Central Burden High School Principal Shane Walter has been hired as the next superintendent of schools for Crest USD

Walter’s two-year contract was approved May 14 by the Board of Education. He will be paid $90,000 annually, plus benefits.

Walter is married with three children.

Bill Nelson was hired as head custodian. A head custodian was hired earlier, but later resigned. This appeared in Colony News incorrectly. We regret this error. Alan Newton’s resignation was accepted as technology director and Jeremy Dupont hired for a contract of 120 days at $14.50 per hour.

Dr. Dutton

Shiloh Dutton received his doctoral degree in education from the University of Missouri May 13. He was awarded the degree during the Graduate Studies Doctoral Commencement and Hooding Ceremony at Mizzou Arena.

He is the son of David Dutton and the late Marinda Dutton. His paternal grandparents are Jay and Virginia Dutton, Colony. His maternal grandparents are Marion and Jeanie Jones, Yates Center.

He works as a teacher at Staley High School in North Kansas City, Mo. He lives in Smithville, Mo., with wife Brooke and daughter Reese.

Lions

Five members answered roll call May

5. Sue Colgin needs to know if a student is interested in Lions band camp; Kenton King needs assistance in erecting a sign at Crest School. Members voted to host a fishing tournament this summer. Prizes will be collected.

Seven members attended the May 16 meeting.

Mary Scovill spoke of an upcoming car show, “Fun in the Sun,” one week before Colony Day.
