An attempted break-in in Iola and subsequent pursuit led to the arrest of a Le Roy man Tuesday afternoon.
Samuel Van Patten, 44, Le Roy, faces multiple charges after he led officers on a lengthy chase into rural Anderson County.
David Shelby of the Iola Police Department said officers received a call of an individual attempting to break into the front door of a local residence.
Van Patten had been accused of trespassing there previously, Shelby noted.
He had left the scene by the time officers arrived, but was spotted moments later by a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper just outside Iola.
The chase proceeded north into Anderson County and then west of Colony.
Shelby said the suspect ruptured a tire while attempting a turn onto a county road, forcing him to stop at a residence south of K-58 Highway.
He parked his vehicle behind a barn and then entered the residence there, where the occupants ordered him to leave.
He was apprehended in the yard, Shelby said.
Van Patten was booked into the Allen County jail for suspicion of attempted aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, trespassing and driving with a revoked license.
Shelby said he was uncertain if Van Patten would face further charges from his actions in Anderson County as well.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department was a part of the pursuit and arrest as well, Shelby noted.
