CHANUTE — Chanute USD 413 Superintendent of Schools Kellen Adams is resigning, effective at the end of the 2022-23 school year.
Adams, who has been at Chanute since 2019, will become superintendent at Leavenworth.
The Leavenworth Board of Education approved Adams’s hiring Monday, the same night at which he handed in his resignation to the Chanute school board.
The Chanute Tribune reported that on top of going to a significantly larger school district, working at Leavenworth will allow Adams to work in the same district with his wife.
Corinna Adams, a third-grade teacher at Humboldt Elementary School, was precluded from working at Chanute while her husband was superintendent due to an anti-nepotism clause in his contract, the newspaper reported.
Chanute school board members announced that Assistant Superintendent Matt Koester will become interim superintendent beginning July 1.
