The land containing the old Cedarbrook Golf Course clubhouse has been sold.
Iola City Council members gathered for a special meeting Thursday to approve the sale of the property to John Wallis Jr. for $35,000.
The dollar amount matched the city’s asking price, Interim City Administrator Corey Schinstock noted.
Of the $35,000, 6% ($2,100) will be deducted for Realtor fees, Schinstock noted.
Council members rejected an offer of $10,501 from developer Tom Carlson for the land in April, opting instead to have the site listed for sale. Carlson’s bid was the only one out of three entities the city approached about selling the property.
Ownership of the clubhouse reverted to the city as part of its land deal with Macha Enterprises once Cedarbrook closed its doors in 2019.
The land had been appraised at $46,920.
Thursday’s session, held in the basement at City Hall and broadcast via Facebook live, was one of the shortest sessions in Iola history, at about 2½ minutes.
Schinstock told Council members Wallis was eager to close on the land deal promptly, necessitating the special meeting.
MEANWHILE, city officials announced Friday they are pushing back the reopening of City Hall until June 1, because of Gov. Laura Kelly’s revisions to her plans to reopen the state amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
City Hall had been slated to reopen on Monday.
The city’s utility office drive-up window will remain open. Payments and general correspondence also can be left at the night deposit box.
Those scheduled to appear in Iola Municipal Court are asked to call the court clerk’s office at 365-4962 for changes in court sessions.
The city anticipates once again renting out the community buildings for private use on June 1 as well.
Plans also remain in the works to open the Iola Municipal Pool and start up the summer baseball and softball recreation leagues, although no timetable has been determined.
