The Allen County Sheriffs department responded to a report of a mountain lion on the Southwind Rail Trail just north of Humboldt just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Sheriff Bryan Murphy said the department received a call from a woman who was bicycling south of Idaho Road.
She reported a creature with pointy ears and a long tail chasing her down the trail, Murphy said. We notified the Humboldt Police Department because they were closer. We arrived on the scene but we were unable to find anything.
Murphy said the department receives calls about mountain lion sightings every few years. He said the department has looked at tracks with the state department of wildlife in the past.
I cannot confirm what she saw was a mountain lion, but she did see something that scared her. She was in a lot of distress when she made the call. We had to contact the Growing Place daycare center over there to let them know what was going on. They reported they have seen bobcats in the area from time to time. Bobcats are prevalent to this area, so that doesnt surprise me, Murphy said.
