Partnership allows church to expand mission services

PITTSBURG — Christmas has come early for the Wesley House, an outreach mission sponsored by First United Methodist Church.

Last week the church announced a partnership with the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas to expand its services to the area’s needy, according to Pittsburg’s paper, The Morning Sun.

The expansion includes a director of services provided by CHC/SEK.

“With CHC/SEK’s support, we are going to be able to do so much more than we ever dreamed possible,” said the Rev. Hyunjin Cho, senior pastor at FUMC-Pittsburg.

Krista Postai, CEO of CHC/SEK, said the agreement is a natural fit.

“We’re not paying it forward, we’re paying it back,” said Postai. “Our first board meeting was held at Wesley House. It was also the home of our first dental clinic, which was housed in a closet.”

This is Wesley House’s 40th anniversary serving the Pittsburg community.

Get paid to learn

PITTSBURG — Students will be paid an hourly wage while they train to learn how to become a pediatric dental assistant, according to The Pittsburg Sun.

The 12-week course begins Jan. 2 at the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas.

The condition is that students agree to work at the CHC/SEK dental clinics in either Parsons or Pittsburg upon completion.

The program helps meet the growing need for pediatric-trained assistants due to CHC/SEK’s Pediatric Dental Residency Program in conjunction with NYU Longone.

Students will learn skills and earn certifications in dental radiology, medical gas sedation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic life support.

Students can apply at https://chcsek.org/dental-assistant-application/.
