2 — Paperwork has been completed to construct a new 60-student dormitory on the Allen County Community College campus. It will be built just west of the tennis court complex. The $378,000 project will be financed with revenue bonds.

7 — Ground was broken this morning for the new Seventh-Day Adventist Church half a mile south of Iola along Old U.S. 169. Among those participating in the ceremony were Jon Anderson, chairman of the building committee, The Rev. Curtis Dale, Sol Evans, city commissioner, and Rev. Lyndon McDowell, pastor.

13 — Ronda Ogle of Moran won the breakaway roping title at the Kansas State Rodeo finals in Topeka and will compete in the national finals in Douglas, Wyo., July 18-23, for the first time as a state champion. She was in the nationals in 1981 and 1982. She will compete against about 140 contestants from 33 states and three Canadian provinces. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Gloria Ogle, who are also accomplished equestrians.
