Jason Cannon’s life, which has had some rocky times, is on the verge becoming more complicated.
After having had three surgeries the past 2½ years to remove two tumors from near his brain and to deal with a cavernoma behind his right eye socket, Cannon will undergo another skull-invasive procedure Aug. 12.
This time surgeons will biopsy a mass to determine whether it is a tumor or a cyst.
“If it’s a tumor, benign or cancerous, I’ll have another round of radiation,” said Cannon, who underwent 10 years of chemotherapy as a pre-teen to deal with lymphoblastic leukemia.
He and wife Michelle live at 615 N. Kentucky. They are hopeful their string of ill luck will be tempered by some financial assistance.
Cannon works at Walmart, but won’t be able to for an undetermined amount of time after the surgery next week. His wife also works, but his latest round of medical care likely will interrupt that.
“We owe about $10,000 from medical bills that we haven’t been able to pay off,” Cannon said, and more expenses will arise from travel to the University of Kansas Medical Center for the biopsy and whatever is done once doctors know what course to follow.
“I’m not begging but I’m not too proud to ask for help,” Cannon said.
He has known for several months that the biopsy was pending, and, just as he has been all along, Cannon said he is confident “I will be fine,” as he was after previous bouts with brain tumors, neither of which were malignant.
“I’ll just let the Holy Spirit guide me and tell me what to do,” he said.
