Allen County officers are looking for a vehicle missing some parts that they found at the scene of an accident about a mile north of Iola Wednesday night. They know the car, a white 2010 Chevrolet Impala, belongs to Enterprise Car Rentals, Kansas City. Identity was made from a license plate found lying near Wayne Barnett’s home, where damage occurred.
The accident came to light when an Iola electric crew was summoned at 11 p.m. to deal with a power outage at the Barnett residence. Workers called for officers when car parts were found near a utility pole.
Officers said evidence indicated the car ran a stop sign on Rhode Island Road, jumped a ditch into the Barnetts’ yard and struck a guy wire attached to the utility pole. Several pear trees also were in the path of the careening vehicle, they said.
The heavy wire and small trees didn’t stop the driver, who drove the car through a ditch and back onto 1400 Street. More parts broke loose from the car as the driver headed south toward Iola. Some also were found in Iola on North Cottonwood Street.
Buoyed by information they have in hand, officers are confident they will find the car and driver soon.
