LAHARPE — LaHarpe residents can once again enter a level utility payment plan.
City Council members endorsed a new policy Wednesday for the level pay plan to begin in February.
A handful already have signed up, City Clerk Michelle Altis said.
In order to qualify, utility customers must have purchased utilities from the city for at least 12 months, and have their accounts paid in full at six-month intervals.
Late payments will be assessed a 10 percent penalty. Those who do not pay their bills by the 25th of each month will have their utilities disconnected. Customers whose utilities have been disconnected are barred from entering a level payment plan for the next year.
To register, contact Altis at City Hall.
COUNCIL members voted to enter a contract with Cole’s Trash Service, LaHarpe, to pick up trash for local residents starting in March.
The Cole’s bid was slightly higher per-customer than a bid from Green Environmental, Erie.
However, Cole’s will not charge the city a monthly fee for a pair of large dumpsters set up in town, unlike Green, making the overall bid less expensive.
The city’s trash rates, $10.25 a month, plus a $2 per-cart fee, will remain unchanged.
THE COUNCIL will take a closer look at whether to keep its bulk water sales station in place.
It cost the city more than $800 to keep the distribution point open, mainly through heating costs to keep water pipes from freezing in the winter.
However, the city brought in a whopping $1.60 cents, Altis noted.
The Council will decide soon whether to find a less expensive way to keep the lines thawed, or shut it down.
