The Iola Public Library has several upcoming programs which include learning to crochet, play bridge, cook and on nutrition.
Basic crochet techniques will be taught at 6 o’clock tonight and again on April 2.
Tonight, participants will learn three basic crochet stitches and begin a small project. Those attending are asked to provide a “G” or “H” crochet hook and one 4-ounce skein of knitting yarn, either wool or acrylic. Registration is required, with a limit of eight.
Learn to Play Bridge will be taught by Donna and Ray Houser on four consecutive Tuesday nights from Tuesday to March 27. Because bridge can’t be learned in one session, those who attend should plan to be at all four sessions if possible. Registration is required, with a limit of 16. The class will be held only if at least four people register. Classes are at 7 p.m.
Soup Two Ways is the library’s first attempt at a cooking class for adults in the Flewharty-Powell Annex. Beckye Parker will show how to make butternut squash soup and Roger Carswell’s Ohio tomato bisque. Participants will get to sample both soups and will go home with recipe and a small container of each kind of soup. Attendees should bring their own containers. Registration is required and there is a $3 fee to cover cost of the ingredients. The class is at 2 p.m. on March 10.
Put More Plants on Your Plate will be at 2 p.m. on March 12. Kathy McEwan, Southwind Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences, will be the presenter. The program will look at following guidelines from MyPlate to make wise food choices and balance eating with physical activity.
