Karen Marie Bailey, 22, Le Roy, has been charged with murder following the death of an infant earlier this month.
Coffey County Attorney Doug Witteman told the Coffey County Republican that the baby apparently had been born April 2 and died sometime later that day in Coffey County.
Bailey was arrested by Coffey County deputies on Friday and booked into the Coffey County Jail. She remains in custody on a $500,000 bond.
Bailey, who worked at an Iola convenience store, is charged with first-degree felony murder and aggravated child endangerment.
The attorney general’s office became involved in the case at Witteman’s request.
Assistant Attorney General Lee Davidson will handle the prosecution.
Bailey’s first court appearance is Monday in Burlington.
