LAHARPE —While folks are still putting out jack-o’lanterns and other spooky Halloween decor, the LaHarpe PRIDE Committee has its sights set a couple months down the road.

PRIDE is teaming up with TLC Garden Center as co-sponsors of a Christmas light contest.

As an incentive to get more participants, the groups are upping the prizes for this year’s contest.

A combined $300 worth of prizes will be doled out.

In addition, the groups are asking the community to help vote for their favorite holiday home.

Meanwhile, PRIDE also is putting in place a bulb and seed exchange for next spring, for local green thumbs looking to spice up their properties.

That will give local growers an opportunity to gather whatever seeds and bulbs to give away to their friends and neighbors.

A date for the exchange has not been determined; additional details for both will be forthcoming.

PRIDE Committee members also finalized plans for Saturday’s annual Cleanup Day activities.

They’ll be joined by two dozen or so missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to canvass the entire community to help residents unable to clear their yards of refuse.

Sign-up for those in need of help is available at LaHarpe City Hall, or by calling (620) 496-2241 by the end of the day Wednesday.
