LAHARPE — That not a single person showed up to partake in arts and crafts projects Sunday hardly dissuaded Courtney Frame, health and wellness director for LaHarpe.
“Sometimes events like these are hit or miss,” she said.
The afternoon fun was set up for youngsters at LaHarpe City Hall, but with nobody coming, Frame took those proverbial lemons and made lemonade.
“I don’t get discouraged,” she said. “To be honest, that gives me time to do plenty of other things.”
“Other things” in this instance meant shifting her focus to her next activity on Wednesday.
A community Thanksgiving Eve meal from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall. “Or, until the food runs out,” she quickly added. “If we run out before 7:30, we run out before 7:30.”
Frame is still on the lookout for volunteers.
In addition to turkey and noodles, residents will be treated to mashed potatoes, corn and rolls. (Frame may also prepare a green bean casserole, if she has enough time.)
Free-will donations will be accepted.
How much time Frame will have to dedicate to the meal will be dictated by how much help she gets.
In a perfect scenario, Frame would have an army of six volunteers to keep things running smoothly Wednesday. As of Sunday, she had two two commitments.
Frame needs somebody to help in the afternoon with tasks such as mashing the potatoes, adding noodles to the freshly cooked turkey, then to help serve up the meals and finally to assist with cleanup afterward.
“Honestly, a single person could do the serving, but it would be a lot easier if there were others,” she said. “But we’ll get it done.”
Those wishing to volunteer should contact Frame via email at caframe@outlook.com.
Once Thanksgiving is in the rear view mirror, Frame has her sights set on a Christmas activity Dec. 11, with a visit from Santa in the works.
She also opens City Hall from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for youngsters to play for an hour in the gymnasium.
The “get active” sessions are open to youths of all ages.
