Lady Cubs split at Cherryvale

The Humboldt volleyball team traveled to Cherryvale and split a triangular with the Lady Chargers and Baxter Springs.

The Lady Cubs move to 6-4 so far this season.

The Lady Cubs came close to a win in their opening match versus Baxter Springs but fell just short 11-25, 25-22 and 22-25.

“We came out very slow in our first match with Baxter,” head coach Terry Meadows said. “Once we picked up the pace a bit, we came alive and started to battle. Aricah really hit the ball well for us all night.  We just came up a little short in the third set.”

McCall carried the Lady Cubs through much of the match, putting up a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. She also had an ace and two blocks.

Camrie Farran had six kills, Madison Gean had three kills and two aces and Kaylie Johnson and Savanna Puckett each had two kills. Morgan Mauk had two aces and 10 digs and Kaylie Johnson had one ace.

Emma Johnson had a team-high three aces to go along with 11 digs and Alayna Johnson and 28 assists.

Humboldt closed things out with a sweep of Cherryvale 25-11 and 25-15.

Aricah McCall had nine kills and an ace in the win for Humboldt followed by Kaylie Johnson and Gean who each had five kills. Johnson had two aces.

Alayna Johnson had four aces and 25 assists and Emma Johnson had two aces and 11 digs.

The junior varsity followed suit by beating Cherryvale and falling to Baxter Springs.

They lost to Baxter Springs 25-21 and 25-8.

Kirstyn Murrow had three aces and Kady Hart had four kills. Murrow also had four assists and Kirsten Kobold had three digs.

The Lady Cubs beat Cherryvale 25-19, 22-25 and 15-11.

Jessica Myers had seven aces and six kills for a great offensive performance while Jailynn Goforth had four aces and Kady Hart had three kills. Roni Bulk had eight assists and Isabelle Murrow had three digs.
