LAHARPE — The LaHarpe PRIDE Committee will give free hot dogs to anyone who shows up Saturday to help with a paint party.
PRIDE members will be on hand to help paint the backstop and fencing at LaHarpe City Park’s softball diamond.
After that, PRIDE members will seek ideas on ways to spruce up the park, such as with new playground equipment or a walking trail.
Discussion also will focus on developing a permanent site for an ice skating rink.
PRIDE members, with the assistance of the LaHarpe Volunteer Fire Department, opened a temporary rink last winter that drew almost daily activity when the weather was cold enough. They are considering approaching the LaHarpe City Council about converting a low-lying slough east of the park’s shelter building into a skating area. The new area would be significantly larger than the 30-foot by 50-foot surface that had been used.
The terrain makes the area conducive to flooding. And if it floods before a cold snap, a sufficient ice surface should be available to skaters of all ages.
PRIDE is eager to hear other ideas for potential improvements and added amenities.
The painting should start at about 10 a.m., with hot dogs served at lunch.
PRIDE meets regularly at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at LaHarpe City Hall. They will meet again
Oct. 17.
The public is invited to both the painting party and the regular monthly meetings.
