KINCAID — For more than a century, the streets of Kincaid have swelled with hundreds of visitors, to the point that the town of 200 is estimated to have crowds of 4,000.
Organizers of the upcoming Kincaid Free Fair hope for a similar turnout this week, a bit earlier in the month than usual.
“It was usually the last weekend in September or the first weekend in October,” explained Kincaid Fair President Liz Drennan. “But we’ve had to move it up in order to schedule our carnival.”
As in years past, the schedule remains jam-packed, starting Thursday evening with a free bean feed and watermelon feed on Main Street, a children’s cash grab and pedal tractor pull.
Friday’s festivities include a turtle race open only for senior citizens — the all-age turtle race will be Saturday afternoon — and a pie baking contest and bingo games at the old city hall building.

THE FUN hits high gear Saturday, beginning with a 5K run and 2.5K walk at 8 o’clock. (Registration begins at 7.)
Commercial, craft and small antique booths will be set up at about 8:30 for showing all day, and a horseshoe pitching contest starts at 9.
Open class and 4-H horse judging follows at 10.
The run-up to the parade includes the Kincaid Fair Queen crowning at 1:15 p.m.
Three hopefuls, Kendra Sprague, Taryn Covey and Katie Brewer, are spnosored by local community organizations and clubs.
Voting already is underway for the queens and will continue Thursday and Friday.
The queen, and the two other candidates, will be featured in the 1:30 parade.
As for the parade, local matriarchs and sisters Linda and Bonnie McAdam will be recognized as grand marshals.
Children’s games, a dryland turtle race and garden tractor pull will follow the parade.
The day will be capped that night at 7 o’clock with a hypnotically hilarious performance by Crimson, the Queen of Comedy Hypnosis. Crimson will set up shop at City Hall.
An assortment of other games, activities and loads of prizes will be presented throughout all three days.
Toby’s Amusements will set up shop all three days for rides, shows and concessions.
And as always, a number of booths and eateries are certain to quench the appetites of the heartiest fairgoers.
