After deliberating less than an hour Thursday morning, jurors told District Judge A.J. Wachter that Allen County Undersheriff Bryan Murphy had probable cause to arrest Billy Dean Haas, rural LaHarpe, on Sept. 23, 2008, for disorderly conduct and obstruction of the legal process. Haas received no financial award.
The verdict concluded a civil lawsuit in which Haas sought “in excess of $75,000 for actual and compensatory damages and costs” from Murphy as well as Sheriff Tom Williams, his employer, for battery, false imprisonment and excessive force.
The trial started Tuesday morning.
