If you’re out to impress, look no further than Jones Jewelry for that special someone.
The jewelry store at 5 N. Jefferson has glistening necklaces, earrings and rings sure to make every woman’s heart melt.
About half are made of real diamonds, the other from the fabricated cubic zirconia that looks as impressive but sells for a fraction of the price.
“The sterling silver pieces are selling best,” said Jo Ann Butler, owner. The advantage of today’s silver is that it is coated with a rhodium finish that requires no polishing.
“The pieces don’t turn,” Butler said of the tarnishing process.
Of special note are crosses made of real and manufactured diamonds. A heart-shaped pink “CZ” necklace is a standout, retailing for just under $200. A pendant of CZ diamonds retails for $105. Earrings with large CZ diamonds surrounded by smaller stones sell for $155.
In addition to Butler’s own stock, jewelry made by “The Sisters 5,” fill two cases. They are the original Leap sisters of Iola who make colorful necklaces and bracelets that feature silver and turquoise.
For men, cuff links, watches, money clips and tie tacks continue to fill a need, Butler said.
“Men today don’t wear so much jewelry, but they always like little touches. And there’s nothing as satisfying as a reliable watch or a good billfold.”
She also carries an assortment of beautiful porcelain dolls perfect for the collector or those who just prefer pretty things.
Butler has owned Jones Jewelry since 1999. The store first opened in 1962 on the Iola square.
She also keeps busy doing small repair jobs for jewelry and watches.
“And I sell batteries for watches like crazy.”
Amazingly, the cost is still $5.
Everything in the store is 20 percent off. Calendars are free.
