Former Iolan Phil Jacobs and wife Nikki will be interviewed on Pittsburg Channel 7’s morning news at 6:50 and 6:55 Wednesday, on a segment titled “What’s Right in the 4-States.”
They will discuss a support group they formed in Chanute, where they live, for parents of autistic children.
Jacobs told the Register that in late September 2011 he and his wife learned from doctors at the University of Kansas Medical Center their three-year-old daughter, Raylin, was autistic.
“Not only autistic, but non-verbal,” he said. “We were left there in shock and emptiness, not knowing what to do or where to turn.
“A few months later my wife came to me and suggested starting a local support group and we did,” Jacobs said. “With her leadership and passion to get the word out about autism, I feel that she is making a difference in the four-state area.”
