Iola City Administrator Sid Fleming will leave his post in March.
Fleming’s resignation announcement was given last week in a private meeting with Iola City Council members.
Fleming, who has been in Iola for the past 3½ years, has been hired as city manager in Paola.
“I’ve certainly enjoyed my time in Iola, and my family has enjoyed it here,” Fleming told the Register this morning.
His tenure has brought about a number of significant — if not glamorous — changes to Iola’s infrastructure.
He has overseen development of new master plans for the city’s water and wastewater utilities; a new utility GIS (geographic information system) mapping program for the city; and the pending launch of a new work order and asset management system to better track maintenance costs and resources in a number of areas.
“The goal is getting more information into the hands of the people in the field,” Fleming said, to allow for more informed decisions on where to focus the city’s priorities, and to allow for seamless transitions when senior staff members eventually retire.
There has been no announcement on when a search will begin for Fleming’s replacement.
Fleming was hired in August 2016 to replace the retired Carl Slaugh.
