Iolan Kara Godfrey has been honored for her volunteer work.

Godfrey, a member of the Iola Community Involvement Task Force/PRIDE Committee, received a Community Partner Award from the Kansas PRIDE program.

The award was presented June 14 at Day of PRIDE activities in Humboldt. The award was noted at Monday’s Iola City Council meeting.

Community Partner awards are presented annually to recognize individuals, organizations or groups who have contributed in significant ways to their local groups’ efforts.

Godfrey’s work as the CITF’s secretary/treasurer, grant writer, history sleuth and more was cited in her nominating letter.

Godfrey, who is Iola’s administrative assistant, helped with research for historical markers placed around Iola’s courthouse square.

Her latest project is taking a role in bringing a disc golf course to Iola.

In her nominating letter, Godfrey’s fellow PRIDE members noted her work “above and beyond” her duties as secretary/treasurer and grant writer.

“We all work and feel we are busy — but she is, too — and never complains about suggestions or favors asked of her to research, look into or complete,” the nominators wrote.

The Kansas PRIDE program encourages and assists local governments and volunteers across the state in making their communities better places to live and work. The program is a partnership of K-State Research and Extension, the Kansas Department of Commerce and Kansas PRIDE, Inc.
