Iolan Dana Moodie became the 10th person to file for a seat on Iola’s new city council.
Moodie, who filed Monday at the city clerk’s office, is the second from Iola’s Ward 2 to file, along with Melinda Luttrell.
“I feel like I have something to offer to the city,” said Moodie, a retired agent with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. “Iola has a lot of things going on, when you talk about revitalization. I think we can make the transition (from a three-member city commission to an eight-member city council) as seamless as possible.”
Moodie retired in 2007 after working for 18 years for the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. There, he worked in the gaming enforcement unit and later in the intelligence section.
Moodie, 55, also has six years with the U.S. Army and is a member of Yates Center’s American Legion and the American Legion Riders. He grew up in Fort Scott, living there until moving to Topeka for his KBI duties.
After moving to Iola about four years ago, Moodie became a member of Iola’s Planning Commission in 2009.
“I’m able to work well with other people, and I would have a responsibility to the people of the second ward,” he said. “I would listen to their wants and needs and desires and act accordingly.”
Moodie also is weighing a bid for the mayor’s position, he said, but has not made a decision.
Iolans have until noon Jan. 25 to file for one of the eight council seats, two each from Iola’s four voting wards. The mayor’s seat, as well as that as a city treasurer will be voted on by the community at large.
Other council members are Steffen Centlivre, Nancy Ford and Scott Stewart from Ward 1; Jim Kilby from Ward 3; and Richard Gilliland, Jerod Kelley, Ken Rowe and Jim West from Ward 4.
Iolan John Smith is the only mayoral candidate.
