Iola Vision Source opened its new offices last week at 216 N. Jefferson Ave., a move that should prove more convenient to patients, its owners said.
Dr. Matthew Skahan, who co-owns Iola Vision Source with Dr. Doug Donnelly, said the new location is more than twice the size of their old digs at 424 N. Washington Ave.
The new building “is better situated for our elderly and handicapped customers,” Skahan said, referring to the new location’s wide and level entrance.
The office formerly held the engineering firm of Shafer, Kline and Warren, which recently closed its Iola site.
“We’ve held it for a while until our lease expired in our old location,” Skahan said.
In the interim, the building’s interior was remodeled in order to accommodate the nine-member staff.
Two ophthalmologists, Dr. Michael Reynolds and Dr. Wayne Anliker of Emporia, also see patients at the Iola clinic.
“Most of the work in the front was cosmetic,” Skahan said, where several office cubicles were removed to make way for a spacious lobby area.
Meanwhile, seven rooms were added to the rear portions of the building, including four exam rooms, a patient waiting area, contact lens station and spots for other services.
“We’re pretty excited,” Skahan said. “We outgrew our space. This also gives us more dedicated parking.”
Much of the remodel was handled by Iola-based businesses, Decorator Supply, Ace Refrigeration, Anderson Plumbing and J&C Electrical Services, Skahan said.
“We wanted to do as much business locally as we could.”
In addition to prescribing and fitting glasses and contact lenses, Donnelly and Skahan are certified to treat emergencies, eye infections and for such services as treating glaucoma. For more information, call 365-2108.
