When City Councilman Jon Wells becomes Iola’s next mayor on Jan. 8, it will create a vacant seat on the Council.
In an effort to fill that First Ward seat, City Administrator Sid Fleming is asking those interested to contact him.
Applications will be accepted up through mid-December.
Current Mayor Joel Wicoff has the responsibility of deciding the appointment, subject to confirmation by the Council.
The First Ward covers much of northwest Iola, bordering Breckenridge Street on the south and Cottonwood Street on the east.
Those interested in the vacant seat can call the city administrator’s office at 365-4900 or email their interest to Roxanne Hutton, city clerk, at roxanne.hutton@cityofiola.com.
Other newcomers to the Council — Ron Ballard, Gene Myrick and Mark Peters — will be sworn in Jan. 8. Outgoing members are Beverly Franklin, Don Becker and Sandy Zornes. Nancy Ford was the only incumbent to seek re-election. None of the Council races were contested.
