Iola High School’s FFA Dairy Cattle Team is a state champion for the third year in a row.

The Iola contingent competed May 3 at a virtual State FFA Career Development Event.

Iola competed in five categories: dairy cattle evaluation, nursery landscape, poultry, livestock and vet science.

The dairy cattle team of Abigail Meiwes, Jenna Curry, Carly Dreher and Nathan Louk topped all comers, and now will represent Kansas in this event at the national level, adviser Amanda Holman noted.

Individually, Meiwes placed fifth and Curry 10th.

The livestock team, consisting of three sophomores and a freshman — Carson Keller, Carly Dreher, Jadyn Kaufman and Cody Wille — took 19th out of the 70 teams competing.

Iola’s vet science team took 15th overall, and earned a spot in the bronze division. Those team members were Levi Meiwes, Becca Sprague, Audrey Coltrane and Aysha Houk.

The nursery landscape squad placed 10th overall. Members were Levi Meiwes, Sprague, Curry and Chloe Sell.
