Iola City Council members will discuss Tuesday the platting process for land on which the new Iola Elementary School will be constructed.

The Iola Planning Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to endorse the proposed plat for the new school at 203 N. Kentucky St.

Council approval for the plat is necessary for building plans to continue.

The Council also is being asked to approve site plans for the new Iola High School science building on Cottonwood Street. That site plan also received unanimous support from the Planning Commission.

Also on the agenda is an appearance from Thrive Allen County Chief Executive Director Lisse Regehr, who will discuss the organization’s recent projects and plans for the coming months.

The Council meeting is being pushed back a day, to Tuesday, because Monday is Memorial Day.

As in recent meetings, the Council will broadcast the 6 p.m. proceedings on Facebook Live because attendance is prohibited amid ongoing COVID-19 protections.

Patrons wishing to address the Council or ask questions about city matters are encouraged to contact Mayor Jon Wells at [email protected], Interim City Administrator Corey Schinstock at [email protected], or call 620-365-4900 during business hours.
