Allen County Community College will remain with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas to provide health insurance coverage for its employees.
College trustees voted Thursday to stay with BCBS under a “triple option” health plan.
Under the new plan, employees may choose whether to adopt one with a $500, $1,000 or $1,500 annual deductible per person or $1,000, $2,000 or $3,000 deductible for families.
The deductible amounts will affect the employees’ annual premiums.
Before this year, the college health insurance plan also came through BCBS. Trustees said in July they would shop for alternatives after learning that those enrolled in the old plan faced a 30 percent increase in premiums.
A survey of 93 college employees revealed that 53, or 57 percent, favored the triple option plan. Forty, or 43 percent, favored staying with the current BCBS plan.
The triple option plan also had been endorsed by ACCC’s insurance committee, said Steve Troxel, vice president for finance and operations.
FRED HEISMEYER, psychology instructor, submitted his resignation, effective at the end of the fall semester. Heismeyer’s wife, Joyce, chief executive officer at Allen County Hospital, is taking a job at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
Trustees approved hiring Lynn Heskett as a business office assistant. Heskett formerly was a receptionist.
