GAS — Councilman Larry Robertson questioned Tuesday evening whether Gas could continue to afford paying the cost of health insurance for its four employees. Spouses and children are not included.
Robertson pointed out the 12-month bill for health insurance was $23,024.05, with another $1,221 for disability coverage.
Each of the employees’ policies includes a $1,600 deductible.
“Do we need to ask them to pay part of the premiums,” asked Mayor Darrell Catron, who will relinquish his gavel to Kenny Baker at the Jan. 9 meeting.
“That was what I was thinking,” Robertson said.
Gas has not received updated information from Blue Cross Blue Shield for 2018 premiums, which will be effective with the February billings. “Let’s wait and see what it (premium costs) goes up to,” Catron suggested; discussion ended.
Councilmen Mark Henry, Harry Holloway and George Grisier did not enter into the insurance discussion. Baker was absent.
Council members approved a cereal malt beverage license for Pete’s convenience store. In another vote they kept the Register as the city’s official newspaper, retained Landmark as its bank of record and reappointed Grisier as council president.
Clerk Rhonda Hill noted the community center is open 7 a.m. until noon Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, or when it has been scheduled for use for individuals or groups. Children using the facility must be accompanied by an adult.
Museum tours are available by appointment only, by calling City Hall, 365-3034; Pat Spencer, 365-4699; or Adelina Holloway, 363-0480.
