The final graduate of Iola High School’s 137th graduating class received his diploma Tuesday in a special graduation ceremony.
A second graduation was held in the lecture hall for Nate Streeter, who missed Iola’s May 22 graduation after sustaining injuries in a car accident May 20.
Matt Kleopfer, Iola band director, and Madison Carlin, an IHS student played “Pomp and Circumstance” as Streeter and five other classmates entered the lecture hall for the ceremony.
Abigail Taylor, a class of 2016 valedictorian, played piano.
USD 257 Board of Education President Tony Leavitt, board members Doug Dunlap and Mary Apt, Superintendent Jack Koehn and IHS Principal Stacey Fager were in attendance, as were several teachers, family and friends.
Streeter said he plans to become a welder.
“It feels pretty good getting to finally graduate,” Streeter said.
His parting advice to next year’s freshmen: “Keep up on the grades.”
