IMS celebrates student achievement

Iola Middle School presented several year-end awards at the conclusion of the 2017-18 school year.

Three students, Bryce Franklin, Elsie Fleming and Sean- Patrick Hurst, maintained perfect attendance throughout the school year.

Earning The American Citizenship awards: fifth grade — Grady Dougherty and Mariah Jelinek; sixth grade — Kania Putri and Damian Wacker; seventh grade — Hallie McDermeit and Cody Wille; eighth grade — Usula Billings and Cooper Riley.

Eighth-graders Aly Ellis and Colin Long earned American Legion Awards for their academic prowess and behavior outside the classroom.

Eighth-graders Ryker Curry and Miah Shelby received the KSHSAA Citizenship Award.

Presidential Excellence awards went to students in grades 5 and 8 who maintained a 3.5 grade-point average or above and scored at a Level 4 on a state assessment test or was recommended by at least two teachers for outstanding achievement in core curriculum areas. They are: grade 5 — Kyndal Bycroft, Elza Clift, Kaysin Crusinbery, Grady Dougherty, Makayla Dunne, Everett Glaze, Lyndsee Holland, Abbigail Hutton, Mariah Jelinek, Lucas Maier, Cole Mathes, Annemariee Mc-Cullough, Melanie Palmer, Ethan Riebel, Demarco Ross, Tavia Skahan, Caroline Toland, Madeline Wanker, Kenleigh Westhoff and Emilia Wilkerson; grade 8 — Madison Adair, Hannah Andersen, Ursula Billings, Braxton Curry, Jenna Curry, Ryker Curry, Samuel Fager, Reece Murry, BreAnna Peeper, Anna Plumlee, Chloe Sell, Miah Shelby, Anna Taylor, Carter Wilson and Justice Wilson.

President Achievement awards went to students in grades 5 and 8 who showed growth, improvement and commitment in the classroom. They are: grade 5 — Reese Curry, Brooklyn Ellis, Zachary Genoble, Katelyn Hicks, Krystina Hurst, Leticia Mendoza Gardner, Sasha Morgan, Maya Shaughnessy, Alexis Sparks, Jacob Stokes, Bryce Walden and Peyton Weast; grade 8 — Emily Ator, Elizabeth Baker, Colin Long, Katlyn Melton, Yuritzi Saavedra, Mars Westgate and Ember Womelsdorf.
