That’s a lot of blue jeans, baby.

The Iola High School tennis team’s blue jean drive last month resulted in 507 pairs of blue jean pants being donated to homeless teens throughout the country.

Coach Jennifer Bycroft and her team spent a month gathering new and used jeans from area residents and stores.

Bycroft transported the jeans to an Aeropostale store at the Oak Park Mall in Overland Park. The national clothing chain heads the annual jean drive and distributes the donated items to homeless shelters.

If Iola High donates the most jeans, the school would receive $5,000, a party for the school and each student a new pair of Aeropostale jeans.

“The employer there said that our donation has been the biggest their store has received so far,” Bycroft said.

People who donated are eligible for a 25 percent discount on a pair of Aeropostale jeans and can pick up coupons at either Iola High or Iola Middle School.

The drive officially ends Sunday.

“If you still have jeans you’d like to donate and will be in Kansas City before Sunday, then please take them by the store in the mall and ask them to add to the collection from Iola High School,” she said.

All Aeropostale locations will accept jean donations.
