Iola Community Theatre’s production of “The Dixie Swim Club,” scheduled for April 28-29 and May 4-5 at the Warehouse Theatre, 203 S. Jefferson Ave., has been canceled.

“It just wasn’t going to work out,” said Dee Sell, president of the Iola Community Theatre Board of Directors, in announcing the cancellation. “We had the show cast, and then had a couple of women drop out. After filling out the cast again, one was lost because of a broken leg and another because of shoulder problems.”

Changing the show dates, as was done with the last ICT dessert theater show, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” wasn’t an option due to conflicts.

“This is the first time in our collective memory that we have had to cancel a show,” Sell said.

People who have purchased tickets may send them to ICT, P.O. Box 434, Iola, KS 66749 or return them to Sophisticated Rose, 19 S. Jefferson for a refund.

“‘Dixie Swim Club’ is a fun show and we were eager to share it with people here,” Sell added. “We may try to do it again next season.”

The play is about five Southern women, whose friendship began many years ago on their college swim team. They set aside a long weekend every August to recharge their relationships. They spend the time together catching up on the previous year, laughing and meddling in each other’s lives.

ICT has no other performances planned until fall, other than a children’s workshop this summer.

“As we have in the past, we’ll sponsor a theater workshop for kids in June in conjunction with the Bowlus Fine Arts Center and the Sleeper Trust,” Sell said.
