A sparkling personality has joined the Iola Register staff. Hailey Dixon, a Humboldt High School senior, is the new Humboldt correspondent.
Dixon moved to Humboldt as a sophomore from Wichita. Her mother, Kathy Robertson, is assistant director of ANW Cooperative, based in Humboldt. Dixon’s stepfather, Kim Robertson, is a special education teacher for science at Chanute High School.
Previously he taught science at Iola High School and was also its assistant football coach as well as the assistant basketball coach for Humboldt.
Dixon has three older stepsisters.
Dixon said she likes the small town atmosphere of Humboldt and stays busy with school activities. Cheerleading is important to her.
“I’ve cheered here for three years now,” she said. “This year I will cheer with the All-American cheerleaders at the annual Disney Christmas parade.”
Although cheerleading is a big part of her life she also is active in student government and newspaper. This week she was elected the senior class president and is the editor and chief of the high school paper, Cub Tracks. This past year she placed second in headline writing at the Kansas Scholastic Press Association state competition in Lawrence.
She is not entirely sure where she would like to attend college next year but she has her sites set on three top schools: University of Wyoming, Bethany College and Boise State University.
“I would like to major in criminal justice and minor in journalism,” Dixon said. “I’ve always wanted to be a defense attorney.”
In her spare time she enjoys cooking, shopping, looking at Pinterest and watching college football.
“I also like to write in my free time,” she said.
Dixon’s senior year will be jam-packed with activities and she is excited about it.
“I’m looking forward to cheering at games and interning here,” she said of her stint with the Register.
