A special meeting of Humboldt City Council will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday to address hiring a Georgia firm to manage Humboldt’s swimming pool as well as the purchase of a new backhoe.
The operation of the pool loses “anywhere from $20,000 to $30,000 a year,” said Larry Tucker, city administrator. USA Pools, Roswell, Ga., has said it can manage the pool for $45,730, Tucker said, “Which means we would save $10,000 a year.”
The firm generally manages private pools for housing subdivisions and other private enterprises, Tucker said, “But wants to get its foot in the door for managing public pools.” The firm contacted Humboldt officials, Tucker said.
The firm would hire the swimming pool manager and lifeguards, oversee their training, payroll, and maintenance of the pool.
The city had budgeted $54,427 for pool expenditures including salaries, benefits, training and chemical supplies.

AS FOR the backhoe, the current model is almost eight years old. Recent maintenance has included fixing the bucket leveler, and replacing hydraulic hoses. The backhoe now is burning excessive oil, Tucker said.
A trade-in with Sellers Equipment, Wichita, for a new JCB model is available for $64,325.
The council meets in the community room of city hall, 725 Bridge St. All meetings are open to the public.
