Humanity House has received a $40,000 grant from The Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, it learned Wednesday.
As a capacity building grant for programs and salaries, the funds will enable Tracy Keagle, executive director, and Georgia Masterson, chairman of the board of directors, to get paid for their work.
Keagle’s daughter, board member Emerald Catron, wrote the grant, her first.
Encouraged, Catron said she has plans to write two more.
Keagle has worked for the non-profit for two years, sometimes as much as 80 hours per week without compensation. Masterson has contributed her services since January and routinely puts in more than 30 hours a week. This is the first grant Humanity House has received. The nonprofit typically relies on donations and fundraisers.
“I am just really grateful that the Health Care Foundation has some faith in what we are doing and is willing to support us in helping other people,” Masterson said.
HCF began grant making in 2005, in the areas of mental health, safety net health care and healthy communities. Locally, they have given funds to Hope Unlimited, the SAFE BASE after-school program, and Thrive Allen County.
