HOFNOD fishing derby is Saturday

The Iola Police Department will host its annual HOFNOD — Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs — fishing derby Saturday at Craig and Georgia Abbott’s pond near the intersection of North Cottonwood Street and Miller Road.

The event is open to any youngster between the ages of 2 and 17. Registration is at the Police Department through Thursday. Otherwise registration will be done the day of the event.

The children will fish in three different age groups — 2-8, 9-12 13-17.

Gates open at 7 a.m. Saturday, with organizers reviewing the rules at 8 o’clock, and the fishing beginning thereafter until 10:30.

Several awards will be presented at the conclusion.

Free hot dogs and chips will be furnished by Dudley’s Done Right BBQ at 11.

Parking is available at Grace Lutheran Church, 117 E. Miller Rd. or at Precision Pump, 25. W. Miller Rd.
