A Springfield, Mo., man was struck and killed by a passing vehicle early Sunday, in an apparent hit-and-run, Allen County Sheriff Bryan Murphy confirmed.
Billy Lee Montgomery, 26, was declared dead at the scene of the accident, along U.S. 54 between Moran and LaHarpe after he was spotted lying in the eastbound lane shortly before 2 a.m., near 3400 Street, or about three miles west of Moran.
The road was closed for several hours while officers investigated the scene.
Murphy said Montgomery had been seen in Anderson County earlier Saturday night, and had apparently been dropped off along the highway after getting into an argument with a female acquaintance sometime after midnight.
