The Bowlus Fine Arts Center will be rollicking with the good-time tunes of Roy Rogers Jr. & The High Riders Sunday. Tickets for the 3 p.m. show are available at the door, via 365-4765 or online at www.bowluscenter.org.
The performance features Roy Rogers Jr. and his son Dustin Rogers. Rogers Jr. is son of legendary Hollywood cowboys Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.
Rogers’ view of his place in the famous family is to “not stand in my father’s shadow, but to lengthen it.” He began performing as a child and formed The High Riders in 1982 to continue his father’s country western legacy. The band has performed regularly in Branson, Mo., since 2003.
The High Riders show will incorporate classic cowboy tunes and tales of life with Dale and Roy.
The all-ages show received the 2009  and 2010 Families Advocating Moral Entertainment “Western Artist of the Year” award.
Band members include:
— Singer Dustin Rogers, 35. “He looks and sounds an awful lot like his grandpa Roy,” according to the group’s promotional material.
— Bassist Tommy Nallie, who performed for seven years with Sons of the Pioneers. “He adds beautiful tenor harmonies,” the group says.
— John Fullerton, “An amazing western balladeer and baritone harmonies. John plays rhythm guitar” and is a Sons of the Pioneers historian.
— Two-time Louisiana state fiddle champion Louis Darby.
The band is arranged by Dino Strunk and covers such well-known tunes as “Cool Water,” “Tumbling Tumbleweeds” and, of course, “Happy Trails.”
