Herff Jones Inc. plans to close its Lackawanna County, Pa., plant by Sept. 30 and transfer work to Iola and Indianapolis, Ind.
Christine Bachmann, with Herff Jones’ headquarters in Indianapolis, told the Register this morning it was too soon to tell if, or how many, jobs would be added to the Iola facility.
“There may be some opportunities” for growth in Iola, Bachmann said. “We hope to have a clearer picture closer to August.”
Herff Jones produces yearbooks, diplomas, instructional and recognition-oriented materials for schools and businesses.
The Pennsylvania closure will cost Scott Township 107 jobs.
Officials cited business conditions and expressed regret over the effect of the closure on employees.
