IN OTHER news, the Farm-City Days Committee has announced its collaboration with USD 257 and Humanity House to bring Keith Deltano, an anti-bullying comedian to Iola Feb. 27 at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center.
We just really want to take a proactive approach to our cultural climate, especially concerning social media, Farm-City Days Committee member Aaron Franklin said in an email. We have a great community here and want to make it even better. We are especially enthusiastic about the info Keith will be presenting at his parent workshop.
Deltano combines audience interaction with cultural commentary into an unusual style of comedy, according to the email.
His presentations go beyond the bystander/bully/victim labels to get at the underlying causes of bullying, utilizing his background in public education to target mean girls status clothes, in group and cliques, acceptance, making new friends and encouraging the audience to avoid judging one another by outward appearance, speech or economic status.
In addition to performing for the students that day, Deltano will present a parent workshop that evening at 6 oclock.
His focus there will be how to create Teflon-coated kids and keep them safe in a social media addicted world.
The workshop is free to attend.
