Happy Hearts FCE members met at the Riverside Park Community Building Monday.
Ann Houk gave two lessons: woman to woman searching for chocolate; and electronic manners.
Perhaps searching was the wrong word, she said. Maybe it would be more accurate to say tearing the house apart looking for chocolate.
Chocolate cravings are perfectly natural, Houk said. Sometimes, women need chocolate as well as other foods high in starch, sugar and fat to stabilize moods, control weight and maintain a sense of well-being.
Cravings are Mother Natures way of telling us we need to eat whatever we crave in order to feel good.
Remember the days of the party phone line? It was aggravating when someone listened in to your conversations, Houk noted.
Today, some talk so loudly on their cell phones in public, people around them get to hear the conversation whether they want to or not.
Some tips:
Try not to call someone during the dinner hour or at an extremely late hour, except for emergencies.
Do not pass on someones unlisted number without their permission. Dont assume everyone around you is interested in your conversation.
Speak in a normal tone of voice, or softer. It is not necessary to shout. Avoid long phone calls in a public space or when in the company of others.
Consider people you are with to be more important than a call. If you must take a call, keep it short.
Communication technology is constantly changing, but some things shouldnt change. Manners and consideration of others are still polite and acceptable modes of behavior.
