A new and improved student activities center at Allen Community College broke ground Wednesday with a goal to open early next year.
ACC officials, including board of trustees members, gathered with project architects and Lloyd Builders to kick off the project.
The project will add space to the existing building, built in 1969.
Its expected to modernize and improve the dining hall, provide two meeting room areas that also can be used by people in the community and add two game rooms.
A new student commons area will feature a large, pull-down screen that can be used to watch televised sporting events or movies.
This building was very functional and it was a great place for students to come eat. And that was about it, ACC President John Masterson said.
Input from students, staff and the community helped determine the scope of the project.
