The New Greenery Restaurant, 1303 N. State St., closed Wednesday.
The Register was unable to reach any of its principals today for comment.
The restaurant was built in 1961 by Pat Close, Dale Stalnaker and Melvin Bell, for Glenn and Leona Menegay, who operated it as Menegay’s North.
They also had a downtown restaurant, Menegay’s, at the corner of Washington and Madison avenues.
More recently the restaurant was owned by Dan Oswald, and operated by his daughter, April Colborn.
The termination apparently is permanent.
Melody Snesrud, president of Iola Rotary, said when appraised of the closure, she was told to have someone “get your things” — banners and paraphernalia.
Rotary has met at the restaurant at noon Thursdays since shortly after it opened. Snesrud said a new meeting place would be sought.
