A series of workshops on soil health and grazing practices are planned in the coming days and months.

The first of the soil workshops will be July 9 at the Allen Community College Theatre in Iola.

Soil health specialists Candy Thomas and Doug Peterson will lead the workshop, which runs all day, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A $25 registration fee also covers lunch and handouts. Attendees also will receive a handy pocket guide, “Midwest Cover Crops Field Guide.”

The workshops are offered through the Kansas Alliance for Westland Streets, and are funded through a grant from the North Central Extension Risk Management Education Center.

Other soil health workshops will run July 10 in Parsons, July 11 in Clay Center, July 12 in Stull and July 13 in Lansing.

Grazing management workshops will run Sept. 17-21 in Emporia, Eureka, Blaine, Jewell and Salina. Jim Gerrish of the American Grazing Land Services will lead the sessions. Cost for those is $25 and includes lunch and handouts.

Registration is required by July 6 online at www.kaws.org/events. A number of scholarships to defray cost of the workshop are available. To apply, call (785) 562-8726 or contact Mary Howell at [email protected].
